I would like to submit this for saddest thing of the year.
Observed from my bedroom window:
The newpaper delivery guy throws a paper onto my driveway, only to have the paper fly out of its plastic sheathing. This of course forces the man to halt his routine and grudgingly get out of his car and reassemble my paper, before getting back in his car and moving on. Next house: Same story. It rapidly becomes apparent that he is dealing with a bum batch of newspapers; prone to dismantle more easily that usual. This guy is faced with a choice: keep tossing them in the vain hope that it was only one or two papers that were affected? Pull over and inspect the cargo? In a job such as that one I'm sure that speed plays a role.
The gamble failed to pay off, minutes later i am startled by the loud -SLAM- of a car door, to see a visibly infuriated man reassembling yet another paper in yet another driveway.
sucks. He's a nice guy, too. I met him a at a garage sale we had once, he bought some books. He also always slips a card into the papers he delivers on Christmas.
Every year I bust out the "Strobeck family tape o' Xmas specials", circa '92. It consists of Disney's Christmas Carol, that cartoon where Huey Duey & Louie have snowball wars with donald, Garfleild Christmas, and 3/4ths of the Peanuts Christmas Special. It also has some Holiday greetings from the troops in Iraq.
As great as those all are, the commericals for Brand New SNES's and Cool Spot Gameboy games are what keep me coming back year after year.
This commercial isn't on the tape, but every year, i come across it online somewhere. I think they might still show it on TV.

This will probably come of interest to absolutely nobody, but I need to release some nerdly rage. Here I go:
Sonic the Hedgehog for Xbox360 is THE WORST video game I have played in a long, LONG time. Sure, the graphics are good, but really, In a few years I'm sure those will be considered shit too. First off, since when does Sonic need to save a princess? and the load times! For the love of God, THE LOAD TIMES! Walk up to person, accept mission. -LOAD- Receive description of mission, (This is all text by the way, no voices) -LOAD- Play 3-5 minutes of mission -LOAD- I think you get the point. It's so poor as to be comical, for awhile, Todd and I were actually enjoying the game, simply because it was so comically bad.
The game is just broken.
And yet, I keep playing. Currently, I'm on a level that launches me into a fiery pit of lava right at the beginning. Joy.
how is it that in the past few months or so, Nestle Pure Life has managed to completely and totally dominate the bottled water market? It's all I see people carrying around and such. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just autistic.
Also today, i got a straight up 100 on an 8 page paper a wrote about the Patriot Act. Take that, college!
If i can somehow have my wrecked car pass inspection within 4 days, I won't have to pay too much in fines, but if not, I'm looking at like 300 dollars. Joy. Last week I found out that the Pathfinder is dangerously close to being totaled, as it is only worth about 3k. Eungh. The upside to all of this is that I get to drive a rental Dodge Caliber for the time being, which I am very very fond of. In a few years i will probably look at a used 2007 Caliber or something. Its a nice car.
My lymph nodes are swollen, as if there are marbles hanging out in my neck. Not normal marbles, but the bigger marbles that you use to hit the small ones out of the circle. (like the Slammer, except that's Pogs.)
I downloaded the New Tenacious D CD. I've only gotten to listen to the first song so far, but that one song has both Meatloaf AND Ronald James DIO in it. Rock.
This year is going by stupid fast. My birthday is next Monday. WTF? It was Halloween like, two days ago.
Woke up early, went to good ol' Pond Springs Elementary, in the gym portable where I used to play Nerf Dodgeball, and voted for Kinky.
Went to my adviser at school. Thanks to my AP stuff i get to start registering a day before all the other freshmen, so Odds are I'l be able to put together a pretty baller schedule for the spring.
Booked it to Best Buy and bought Guitar Hero 2. They had like, 3 stacks as of it as tall as me. I don't know why I was in such a rush. It came with a free copy of Wayne's World. right on.
Got in a wreck. I went through a green light, saw that the next light was green, and then saw that people at this green light weren't, you know, going. Too late. brake, smash. I rear-ended an a car into another car. Apparently traffic had stopped for funeral procession but i didn't see anything like that.Everyone was fine, but the Pathfinder's all fucked up again. It got towed to some body shop somewhere.
Walked the remaining BLOCK to school, and went to class.
It's not like a have a huge loyal readership on Livejournal that I am abondoning heh. But yeah, if you care to read about my crap, it'll prolly be there for awhile.
The new Beck CD, "The Information" is out today, I drag Amy (well, she drove acutally) to Best Buy I dont buy it because the package says nothing about the bonus DVD being in surround sound, like his last two cds. So i look like nerd, and I dont buy anything. Bummer. Turns out theres no surround version comign out right now. Also a bummer, I kinda expected that. Ive kindof decided that every album i buy from here on out will be either A)surround sound or B)Vinyl. But, i just downloaded the album heh. It's good so far! I remember some of these new songs from the concert this summer. cool.
Later, during my marketing class i kept a watchful eye on a eBay auction for a faceplate for my car stereo, which as you may know i desperatley need. I LOST BY ONE DOLLAR WITH ONE SECOND TO GO. I tried my best to suppress my rage so as not to disrupt class but i did kindof freak out and i got some weird looks. I did get the busted glass on the Pathfinder fixed so i guess thats something.
For the first time ever, I'm listening to the Next Big Thing, and I actually recognize more songs than i dont. Actually, i have most of them on my computer.
It's been a few days now since the fest, and once and as last year i had the time of my life. I took an assload of pictures. Highlight of the weekend for me obviously was the Flaming Lips. Ive heard over and over about all the crazy shit they do but to actually be there was... something close to a religious experience. I love that band. I want to do Zaireeka Again. Maybe with cars this time?
Saw Amy Saturday night, I was really tired and said alot of silly things. Im glad that happened. She drove me to the fest on Sunday, which was tremendously nice of her to do. I ran into Quentin Tarantino on the street saturday night as well. That was cool. He was surrounded by his entorauge so I didnt say anything to him but of corse i snapped a quick picture.
Well, it's 1 am and i have to prepare for a speech about Apple Computer for my public speaking class tomorrow. I'm the first in the entire class to present and I'm not looking forward to it at all.
